John Green's Books Inspired Nail Art

I was ready to post another book review today but I looked back and realized that I had 3 or 4 in a row. So I figure that it's time for some nail art! It still kind of has to do with books, but that is kind of the thing about this blog. But if you really know me, you know that I love John Green as a person and a writer. I first read The Fault In Our Stars and my obsession started. He is such a genius and great writer and funny person, it just makes me wonder how one person can be so great.

So I have to say that I'm not extremely happy about these. I mean there aren't bad enough to go into my trash bin, I did decide to blog them, but there are a lot of things that I don't like about them. Espically the Will Grayson nail because I didn't clean it very well, so please ignore that. ;)

So each of my nails is based off one of his books. My thumb is based off of Looking for Alaska, my pointer from Will Grayson, Will Grayson, my middle finger from The Fault In Our Stars, my ring finger from An Abundance of Katherines, and my pinkie is from Paper Towns. My favorite is probably my thumb. I'm not going to list all of the polishes here because there is just too many. I used a nail art brush and a dotter tool. I topped them off with Essie Good to Go.

The 5th Wave Book Review

Title: The 5th Wave
Author: Rick Yancey
Series: The 5th Wave #1
Rating: 4/5 Stars
Bookshelves: books-i-own, favorites, dystopia, have-high-hopes-for, other-supernatural, ending-destroyed-me, favorite-series, romance

"We're here and then we're gone, and it's not about the time we're here but what we do with the time."

When I first heard of The 5th Wave, I was like are you kidding me. Aliens. Really. I have never really been a fan of alien anything. But I was at Target and I read the description and bought it because it sounded way too much like The Walking Dead for me to not read it. Alas, I was surprised by The 5th Wave. I was relived that the aliens weren't green or look like ET.

I mean The 5th Wave wasn't perfect. It was really really long and I felt like some parts of the book could have been shorter or more action packed. But I really liked most of the characters. I also felt for them which is always a main plus for me. It was really everything you could ask for in an alien dystopian novel.

So this book is about an alien invansion in 5 waves. The book is split between two different stories that collide and takes place in the 4th wave and part of the 5th. The first story is of Cassie. Cassie lost her mom and dad in the invansion and is now looking for her brother. Her brother was kidnapped alongside a lot of kids to be taken to safe haven that really isn't a safe haven. While she looks for him she meets Evan and he takes care of her when she gets injured.

The other story revolves around Cassie's brother Sammy and his time at the safe haven that is really a base camp. The base camp trains the kids to fight the aliens. Sammy's camp leader is named Ben. Ben turns out to be Cassie's old crush as well. I didn't like this story as much as Cassie's but it was still really interesting.

So overall I thought the 5th Wave was really riveting and intense. I really loved all the characters and I can't wait for the next book in the series!

PS if you didn't know, the 5th Wave is being turned into a movie! Some of the casting has been decided.

description

From left to right its Nick Robinson as Ben, Chloe Moretz as Cassie, and Alex Roe as Evan. If you have read the book, what do you think? I like the choices except for Alex Roe. I just think he is a little too old for the part? I don't know. But the rest are great choices.

Silver Shadows (Bloodlines # 5) Book Review

Title: Bloodlines
Author: Richelle Mead
Series: Bloodlines #5
Rating: 5/5 stars
Bookshelves on Goodreads: book-boyfriends, books-i-own, damaged-guys, favorites, have-high-hopes-for, my-emotions-i-cannot, pissed-me-off, read, romance, vampires

“Everything I’d fought for, every challenge, every victory … all of it was empty if anything happened to him. Without him, I wouldn’t have had the courage to become the person I was. Without him, I wouldn’t have realized what it truly was to live and love life. Centrum permanebit. He was my center, and there was nothing I wouldn’t do, nothing I wouldn’t give up, to keep him safe.”

Holy. Crap. I read this in early August but thinking about it/ writing this review makes me want to cry with tears of joy. This is my favorite book ever, no exceptions. In my opinion, it was also the best of the series. It was intense, heart breaking, and stunning beautiful and perfect. Like really after I read this, I couldn't do anything properly. PS. As always there will be spoilers now for the rest of the series.

After the crushing thing that was the ending of The Fiery Heart, Sydney is in re-education and Adrian is destroyed. He looks for her through dreams every night and day, when he is sober anyways. Everybody is looking for Sydney but she is no where to be found. Adrian basically falls apart: he barely passes his classes at art school, he drinks all the time, and is spirit is driving his crazy. And god, I felt for him. Really, I mean it was so emotionally awful to read about him like that.

Sydney is in re-education and it is just as awful as thought it would be. They keep her in a pitch black room for almost 3 months before she earns the right to be around people, people who have done wrong by the alchemists like her. She meets friends and tries to find any way to get out of there. While I didn't feel for Sydney as much as Adrian, I was more just angry at the alchemists. And her dad and sister, gahh.

So overall I have no clue what to say about this book because it was just so perfect in every way. The ending was shocking and perfect and unbelievable. People who read the book probably know what I'm talking about. But anyways, there was a bad cliffhanger as always. Classic bloodlines. But even without the cliffhanger I absoluetly can't wait until February 10th. Its just too far away.

Vampire Diaries Unmasked Book Review

 Title: Unmasked
Author: Aubrey Clark/L.J. Smith
Series: The Vampire Diaries #13
Rating: 5/5 Stars
Bookshelves on Goodreads:  book-boyfriends, books-i-own, damaged-guys, ending-destroyed-me, favorites, have-high-hopes-for, my-emotions-i-cannot, romance, vampires

“There’s no happy ending in this for either of us. I hope you know that.” she said. “I’ve lived this once already. I know what it’s like to love them both, and to lose them.”

Unmasked is so conflicting for me. I feel like I naturally need to give 5 stars to anything Vampire Diaries related, and I do. I do feel like this one deserved it, maybe unlike the other two written by the ghost writer. But I'm so happy that I read this one because it broke my heart then put it back together again. I was satisfied with how it ended.

Unmasked picked up basically a week or so after Unseen. Spoiler time if you haven't read the rest of the series. Elena is dying and Damon is feeling at fault. He killed Stefan's killer and he thought it wouldn't apply to the deal that Elena and Damon made, but it did. But before Elena dies, a guardian offers her a chance. She goes back to the beginning to make Damon good. But doing it means she can't love Stefan.

But I loved every page. I feel bitter sweet that the series has ended (maybe? *smshhh*). But I still have the TV show to fix my TVD love.

Nailing The Book: Silver Shadows Nail Art

Hey guys! I am super excited for today's post. The Bloodlines series is a spinoff series by Richelle Mead. It is also my favorite series ever. So I was super thrilled when the latest book (Silver Shadows) came out about a month ago. And god, I was not disappointed. The book was my favorite of the whole series and probably just my favorite book in general. So of course, I had too do some nail art!

Silver Shadows (Bloodlines, #5)

Also, look at that cover! Its so perfect, except for that one piece of hair in Sydney's forehead at the top. I don't know, maybe its just me. Anyways, my nail art is based on the flowers/vines/swirly things on the cover and I have a slight gradient in the back ground. I used NYC Sidewalkers, NYC Black Velvet, and Rimmel London White Hot Love for this design. I free handed it with a nail art brush. Also to add effect the gradient is matte but I did the rest of the design in normal shine. For the matte I used NYC Matte Me Crazy.

OPI Coca Cola Collection -1 Swatches and Review

Today I have swatches of the OPI Coca Cola collection for you all! I ended up getting the mini version of the collection from Ulta. Only when I got home, did I realize that the collection was missing one. From the collection I am missing Orange You Fantastic! which looks like this. But I'm still happy because I got 8 beautiful shades plus a base and top coat.

Coca Cola Red (Inspired by Coke):

Coca Cola Red is a traditional red creme. This is perfect in an ununique way. Shown is three coats without top coat.

Today I Accomplished Zero (Inspired by Coke Zero):

Today I Accomplished Zero is a black jelly with pink glitters. I personally love this, especially in natural light. Here is two coats with top coat.

My Signature is DC (Inspired by Diet Coke):

My Signature is DC is a bright silver foil. I am really not a fan of this polish because it is just too bright. The formula was great though. Shown is three coats without top coat.

You're So Vain-alla (Inspired by Vanilla Coke):

You're So Vain-alla is a light nude creme. As far as nudes go, I love this. Shown is three coats without top coat.

Sorry I'm Fizzy Today (Inspired by Diet Coke):

Sorry I'm Fizzy Today is a beautiful light pink creme. This is perfection in a bottle. Shown is two coats without top coat.

Get Cherried Away (Inspired by Coke Cherry):

Get Cherried Away is a blue black cherry creme. I like this just because it is so unique. Shown is 2 coats without top coat.

Green on the Runway (Inspired by Sprite):

Green on the Runway is a slight green/brown duochrome. This polish is amazing, its my new favorite from OPI. Shown is two coats without top coat.

A Grape Affair (Inspired by Fanta):

A Grape Affair is a dark purple creme. Grape pop is literally all I drink. I currently have three 12 packs hiding under my desk. Really, its a problem. So i'm naturally in love with this beautiful purple. Shown is two coats without top coat.

Which one is your favorite? Do you love these as much as I do? Leave your thoughts in the comments and thanks for reading!

Four: A Divergent Story Collection Book Review

Title: Four
Author: Veronica Roth
Series: Divergent 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, & 0.4
Rating: 5/5 stars
Bookshelves on Goodreads: book-boyfriends, books-i-own, damaged-guys, dystopia, favorites, have-high-hopes-for, love-the-cover, read, romance

“One thing I know: For helping me forget how awful the world is, I prefer her to alcohol.”

Four is a collection of four novellas from the Divergent Series. The Divergent series has been one of my favorite series for a long time, so I have looked forward to this beauty for a while. It was perfection. I really enjoyed to read from Four's perspective in this book. In Allegiant, his pov was not perfect but it was really great in Four.

The first story is called The Transfer and is when Tobias makes his choice in which factions he wants to pick. The whole story is really heartbreaking, there are some abuse scenes from his father, and they destroyed me. It was also very uplifting to see how strong becomes and how he gets away from his father.

"Don’t worry about me handling the pain, I’ve had a lot of practice."

I smirk a little. I did it, I put that expression on his face. I am not the perfect Abnegation child, doomed to be swallowed whole by the system and dissolved into obscurity. Instead, I am the first Abnegation-Dauntless transfer in more than a decade.

“You're the one who has to live with your choice, everyone else will get over it, move on, no matter what you decide. But you never will” (The Transfer)

The second story is called The Initiate and is about Four's experience as an initiate. It was great to read about his friends and how he finished in top of his class.

I am not Tobias Eaton, not anymore, never again. I am Dauntless.

The third story is called The Son and is about Four in normal Dauntless life after he graduated. It made me hate Eric more, I didn't think that was possible. You also get to learn about when he got his tattoo!

“You know, the kind of person who gets this tattoo is probably the kind that should keep it very quiet," she says, looking at me from the corner of her eye. "Or else someone will start thinking they're Divergent.”

The fourth story is called The Traitor and is the only novella with Tris in it, so this is basically the beginning of Divergent from Four's perspective. This was my favorite novella.

''How is it possible to live the same story twice, from different vantage points?''

Streaky Gradient Nail Art

Hey guys! It has been a very lazy weekend for me, mostly just reading, painting my nails, and watching TV. But today I have some very old nail art for you all. These have been just sitting in my blog folder forever and I'm finally pulling them out today. They are very simple but I love them.

I used Sinful Colors Pink as my base for all of my nails. The glitter is a mix of Pure Ice Endless Fortune and Elf Gold Star. The polishes in the gradient are Nicole by OPI Light Me Up, Sally Girl OMG, and Nina Ultra Pro Orange Flame. I made the gradient by painting the nail SC Pink, then laying down striping tape. Then I painted the orange in the middle and the pink on the left and etc.. letting them blending together while they were still wet. I topped it off with Essie Good to Go.
